Most of what gets made now is designed to be replaced. It looks correct for a season and then quietly asks to be upgraded. We wanted the opposite: something that looks better with a little wear on it.

Vintage isn't nostalgia. Nostalgia is wanting the past back. Vintage is noticing that some things were simply built to last -- a good watch, a wooden boat, a linen jacket that fits better in year ten. We wanted to make something that belongs in that company.

The test we use is simple. Would you be glad to still have it in twenty years? Would you hand it down without apologizing for it?

The Original was never meant to be a drop. The formula hasn't changed since the first bottle, and it won't. That isn't stubbornness. It's the whole point. A modern classic is only a classic that hasn't gotten old yet, and the one way to make one is to refuse to chase the year you're in.

We love vintage because it's proof that restraint ages well. We're trying to earn our way onto that shelf.
